Note to persons that have not seen the show, here is a very quick recap: Oceanic Flight 815 crashed on this mysterious island. There were only 42 survivors. Of those survivors, 6 were rescued. Now, three years later those 6 survivors have to come back to save the other survivors' lives... and now you are caught up.
In this episode entitled "Namaste", the viewer gets to see what happens to the plane that the 6 survivors were on. We already know that Jack-the doctor, Kate- the con artist, and Hurley- the guy who won a million dollars, are taken from the plane mid-air and put on the island. As far Sayid and Sun go, the viewers have yet to see them on the island. We later find out that Sun was still on the plane and did not get taken off the plane. Now this episode is in two different time periods. Sun is in the present time period as well as the other people who were on the plane, but Jack, Hurley, and Kate are all in a different time period. It is 1977 where they are.
The episode makes a jump to 1977 and there you see Jack, Hurley, and Kate. They are staring at a man. The man in question, is LaFleur. LaFleur is actually Sawyer, who was one of the original survivors on the Oceanic Flight 815 crash. This reunion is bittersweet because none of them have seen each other in three years. LaFleur tells them that he is a part of the Dharma Initiative- a organization that was using the island as part of scientific experiments back in this time. LaFleur asks them to stay put so he could figure out how to smuggle them into the grounds. While talking Jin, Sun's husband, overhears them say that Sun was on the plane too. He quickly leaves the three alone to go see someone who knows when a plane flies over the island.
Meanwhile in the present, Sun sees Ben- a creepy guy who has lived on the island on his life and used to be leader of a group called "the others" (more on them in a later blog- I have a feeling that they will be coming back into the picture). Ben starts to walk through the forest towards a boat that leads to the island and Sun follows and soon follows Lapidus- the pilot from the plane and man who helped rescue the Oceanic Six. Sun confronts Ben and says that she wants to go with him to find Jin, her husband. Lapidus tells her not to trust Ben and before you know it-- WHACK! She knocks Ben upside his head. Sun and Lapidus then proceed to the island.
Back in LaFleur's time, he gets a hold of Juliet- an "other" turned good guy- and tells her to put Jack, Hurley, and Kate on the list so they can get into the compound where they live. She tells him not a problem and he leaves to go get them. In the meantime, Jin rushes to one of the Dharma stations- The Flame- to ask its occupant Radzinsky if he heard a plane go by overhead. Just as Radzinsky is about to check, an alarm goes off. The two jump up and both yell "Hostile." Technically a hostile is what they call an other or a person who is native to the island or a threat in general. (Some time after 1977, the others do eventually overthrow the Dharma Initiative.) Jin is the first to reach the hostile... but indeed it is no hostile- it is Sayid. Although, Jin wants to be happy to see him, he is forced to tell him to get down on the ground and bring him back into the station. Radzinsky makes Jin call LaFleur- who is head of security as well- and tells him to come to the Flame. Secretly, he also tells him that it is Sayid. LaFleur finishes getting Jack, Hurley, and Kate situated and tells them to wait until the name is called. LaFleur goes to the Flame and picks up Sayid and Jin. Once back at the compound, he takes Sayid to a holding cell in security and winks at him to tell him it will be okay. A few hours later, a young boy named Benjamin Linus aka creepy man- comes to see Sayid and gives him food. While this is going on, Jack goes to visit LaFleur and finds out that he is living with his one time love- Juliet. He tells Jack that he just has to be patient and everything will work out.
Back in the present, Sun and Lapidus are at the compound where it once existed. They see a light in a window and proceed to appoach the building. As they are reaching it, the door opens and a man is standing in the doorway. It is Christian Shepard- Jack's father. Sun asks him if he knows where her husband is and he shows her a picture from the 1977 at Dharma Initiative compound. Christian then tells Lapidus and Sun that it is going to be a long journey back for them.
This is where the episode ends- here are my predictions:
- The "others" are going to come and take over the Dharma compound.
- Someone is going to find out about Jack, Hurley, Kate, and Sayid.
- Sun will be reunited with Jin at some point.
Confused???? Watch this. Maybe it will clear it up. If not, start the show from the first season.

I have first hand knowledge of 1977 ... beside the Ramone's release of "Sheena is a Punk Rocker" giving the name to a movement ... a pretty boring time to pick.
ReplyDeleteYes, just when you think you have a handle on it the show manages to confuse us again.
Hahahaha! That video was great =P
ReplyDeleteI'm actually a lot less confused, still not going to watch it... haha! thanks though! =)
look forward to the next one!!
